Johnny Vaught's Ole Miss Rebels beat the Rice Owls 13-6 in the 1961 Sugar Bowl played at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. Ole Miss finished 10-0-1 and were National Champions. The Rebels were led by quarterback Jake Gibbs who went on to play catcher for the New York Yankees. Gibbs later became Head Coach of the Ole Miss baseball program winning 485 games.
